Charles Bierbauer, the steady CNN voice from the Pentagon to the White House who later built a journalism powerhouse at the University of South Carolina, has died. He was age 83. Bierbauer’s death at his Spruce Pine, North Carolina, residence on Friday, Aug. 29, came as he enjoyed retirement, a university spokesperson said.
