The East Coast racing community is grieving the sudden loss of Eugene Drew, a longtime Legends racer who grew up in West Milford and lived in Vernon for most of his life, competing at tracks across New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania.
According to his obituary from Pinkel Funeral Home, Drew passed away peacefully at home on Monday, Dec. 8, at the age of 49. Born in Pompton Plains, he was raised in West Milford and later settled in Vernon, where he raised two children, his obituary said.

Support is on the rise for the family of a Clifton native following his sudden death.
Robert "Bobby" Takacs, a New Jersey native who later settled in Dingmans Ferry, PA, died on Tuesday, Nov. 18, according to his obituary on the Shook Funeral Home website. He was 45 years old.
Takacs worked as an auto mechanic for many years and loved animals, fishing, and hunting, his obituary said. A cause of death has now been released for Diane Ladd, the Oscar-nominated actress and mother of Laura Dern, who died earlier this month at age 89.
According to a death certificate obtained by People, Ladd died of acute on chronic hypoxic respiratory failure on Mon., Nov. 3. She was cremated a week later, on Mon., Nov. 10, the outlet reported.
Ladd’s career spanned more than seven decades, earning her acclaim for roles in both film and television.
