Man Tried To Rob People Outside State Capitol, Police Say
A man from the region is facing charges after he allegedly tried robbing people near the state Capitol. State police in Albany were called just before 11 p.m. Friday, Sept. 9, with a report that a man with a knife was demanding money from people on Madison Avenue, outside of the Empire State Plaza. Working with Albany Police, troopers identified the suspect as 39-year-old Shawn Haymon, of Albany, police said. Man Accused Of Fatally Stabbing Roommate During Altercation In Capital District
A man is behind bars after an altercation between roommates ended with a man being stabbed to death in the Capital District, according to police. Albany Police were called just after 1 a.m. Friday, Aug. 12, with reports of a stabbing at a home near Clinton Street and Third Avenue. When officers arrived, they found 56-year-old Rodney McClean unresponsive inside the home, suffering from multiple stab wounds to his torso, police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene. A violent sex offender with a history of targeting vulnerable adults has been arrested in the region after allegedly assaulting a man with autism. In Albany County, Watervliet Police arrested 64-year-old Jamal Ali, of Watervliet, on multiple sex crimes following an alleged incident that occurred on Thursday, Aug. 4. Investigators said Ali approached the victim, an adult man with autism, at a bus stop and invited him back to his home to drink alcoholic beverages and watch a movie. A 40-year-old Capital District man is hospitalized with serious injuries after police said he was stabbed by his roommate. Albany Police officers were called at around 11 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 7, with reports of a stabbing near Second and Alden avenues. An Army National Guard soldier in Upstate New York is facing charges after allegedly threatening violence at a military base in the Capital District. New York State Police said they began investigating after a concerned soldier from the Army National Guard Base in Latham contacted them on Saturday, July 23. A man from the Capital District is facing charges after he was allegedly busted driving high on drugs with a child in the car. Troopers stopped Schenectady resident Derrick Hill, age 50, Monday evening, June 27, on I-87 in the town of Coeymans for a vehicle and traffic violation, according to New York State Police. An accused serial scammer is behind bars thanks to a savvy would-be victim in the Capital District. Colonie Police said the elderly woman called 911 Wednesday morning, June 22, saying she had received a phone call that she believed to be a scam. She told police a man had called claiming to be an attorney for her granddaughter and said he needed bail money to get her out of jail. Prosecutors in the Capital District have formally charged a suspect accused of gunning down a man during a robbery. Albany County resident Ahlaumion Hall, age 25, of Cohes, is facing multiple charges in connection with the death of Charles Gibson Jr., according to the Albany County District Attorney’s Office. A woman was killed in a fiery two-vehicle crash involving a drunk driver on a stretch of I-87, New York State Police said. It happened at around 9:55 p.m. Saturday, May 28 on the northbound side in Albany County in the town of Colonie. Police have arrested a man accused of fatally stabbing an up-and-coming chef in the Capital District. Marquis Jackson, age 34, of Albany, was charged with second-degree murder and criminal possession of a weapon, Albany Police said.
