Nearly two years after a 51-year-old man was found shot to death inside a car in the region, his accused killer has confessed to the crime.
Damien McCaskey, age 28, of Troy, pleaded guilty to second-degree manslaughter in Albany County Court on Friday, Jan. 6, in connection to the shooting death of Danny Pearson, Jr.
Albany Police officers found Pearson behind the wheel of a car near Lexington Avenue and 1st Street at around 8:20 p.m. on Monday, May 10, 2021. He was later pronounced dead from a gunshot wound at a hospital.

2 Missing Girls From Capital Region Found Safe, Police Say

Two young girls who were reported missing in the region have been located, authorities announced.
Deysi Rivero, age 12, and Tomiko Akbar, age 11, both of Albany, had last been seen at around 5 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 9, near Livingston and North Lake avenues, Albany Police said.
On Thursday morning, Nov. 10, police said both girls had been found in Albany.
"They're safe, in good health and will be reunited with their families," Albany Police said in a statement.

Two people are facing charges following separate animal cruelty investigations in the region, including one involving a dog that died.
Albany resident Elisa Sumner, age 27, was arrested Tuesday, Nov. 1, after police looked into the death of her two-year-old German Shepherd at her Spring Street home in August 2022.
Albany Police determined that Sumner had failed to provide the animal with enough food and medical care.
