Allendale Man, 21, Burned When Sealant Vapors Flash In His Face
A 21-year-old Allendale man sustained first- and second-degree burns Tuesday when vapors from a can of spray sealant flashed in his face, authorities said. The New Street victim was using the rubber spray in his backyard when something ignited the vapors -- possibly static electricity, Allendale Police Chief George Scherb told Daily Voice. The flash burned his face and scalp, the chief said. Firefighters Douse Allendale House Blaze
Firefighters doused a house blaze in Allendale late Sunday. The fire broke out on the second floor of the 2½-story, wood-frame house on West Crescent Avenue off Franklin Turnpike around 10:15 p.m. It went to a second alarm for coverage 20 minutes later and was knocked down 10 minutes or so after that, responders said. Firefighters from Mahwah, Waldwick, Wyckoff, Ho-Ho-Kus and Saddle River assisted their Allendale colleagues at the scene. : Mahwah Firefighters Rush From Rockland Brush Blaze To Local House Fire
Mahwah firefighters were helping their colleagues from Hillburn, Sloatsburg and Tallan douse a brush fire in a remote wooded area of Rockland on Sunday when a house fire broke out nearby in town. The fire, which originated in the kitchen, was quickly knocked down, although it did cause some damage. Mutual aid was provided by firefighters from Ramsey, Franklin Lakes, Allendale, Saddle River, Upper Saddle River and Suffern. No injuries were reported. : Multi-Alarm Fire Ravages Ridgewood Downtown
Firefighters saved an entire block of businesses and homes by eventually putting down a destructive downtown blaze Sunday night in Ridgewood. The five-alarm fire broke out in an apartment upstairs from the Bagelicious shop on North Broad Street shortly after 9 p.m. and quickly spread to the building housing the Mediterraneo restaurant and an office building. A unique program aimed at reducing substance abuse while also tackling other troubling issues among young people in Allendale and Upper Saddle River will grow even stronger, thanks to a new federal grant, organizers said. The $625,000 National Drug Control Policy grant will be distributed evenly over five years to the USRA Coalition, said Upper Saddle River Mayor Joanne Minichetti, the group’s chairperson. Wyckoff Exec Gets 12-Month Fed Sentence For Taking $350,000 In Bribes From Scrap Metal Company
A former national demolition company senior vice president from Wyckoff was sentenced Wednesday to six months in federal prison and six months of home confinement for taking $341,052 in payoffs from a scrap metal company. Work-Bound Allendale Bicyclist, 62, Banged Up In Van Crash
A 62-year-old Allendale bicyclist was treated for cuts and bruises after a collision with a van on his way to work early Tuesday, authorities said. The northbound 66-year-old driver was turning into the driveway at 20 Commerce Drive when the van collided with the southbound bicycle on Boroline Road around 6:30 a.m., Police Chief George Scherb said. The bicyclist was taken to The Valley Hospital in Ridgewood for treatment, the chief said.
