Amityville Woman, Massapequa Resident Charged With Animal Abandonment
Two women are facing charges after allegedly abandoning several cats at a Long Island park.
The Suffolk County SPCA said Crystal Cahill, age 39, of Amityville, and Catherine Gropper, age 32, of Massapequa, in Nassau County, trapped cats in East Islip under the pretense of neutering and returning the cats, but instead left three adult cats in Tanner Park in Copiague.
The pair was charged with three counts each of animal abandonment and once count of conspiracy to commit a crime, both misdemeanors.

A Long Island man was arrested for alleged DWI following a motor vehicle crash that seriously injured his passenger.
The crash took place in Islip around 1:20 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 22, on Sunrise Highway.
According to Suffolk County Police, Tevin Allen, age 24, of Amityville, was driving a 2018 Nissan on eastbound Sunrise Highway when he lost control of the vehicle, which struck the median about a half-mile west of Commack Road.

Four people are facing weapons charges after they were rescued from a fiery crash on Long Island.
Officers were on patrol in North Babylon early in the morning on Thursday, Aug. 18, when they saw a 2018 BMW speeding and swerving on Route 231 near Commack Road, the Suffolk County Police Department reported.
Police attempted to pull the BMW over, but the driver didn't stop, and officers discontinued the traffic stop, authorities said.

A woman on Long Island is facing charges for allegedly abandoning her 4-year-old dog in a dilapidated home, SPCA officials announced.
Roy Gross, the Chief of the Suffolk County SPCA announced that after a joint investigation between his organization and the Amityville Police Department, a woman was arrested for neglecting Blue, her Cane Corso blue pit bull mix dog.
