A woman has been arrested and charged with felony animal cruelty months after a dog was found abandoned near a Westchester County cemetery with a life-threatening cut to its neck, authorities announced.
Anita Martin, 60, of Yonkers, was arrested following a joint investigation by SPCA Westchester’s Humane Law Enforcement Unit and the Yonkers Police Department Detective Division, SPCA officials announced on Thursday, Jan. 22.
She is charged with felony aggravated animal cruelty and abandonment, the SPCA said.

A 55-year-old woman is facing animal cruelty and abandonment charges after two severely neglected dogs were found separately in Putnam County parking lots earlier this week, authorities said.
The investigation began on Tuesday evening, April 8, around 8:54 p.m., when authorities were called to the parking lot of Saint James the Apostle Church in Carmel. Amityville Woman, Massapequa Resident Charged With Animal Abandonment
Two women are facing charges after allegedly abandoning several cats at a Long Island park.
The Suffolk County SPCA said Crystal Cahill, age 39, of Amityville, and Catherine Gropper, age 32, of Massapequa, in Nassau County, trapped cats in East Islip under the pretense of neutering and returning the cats, but instead left three adult cats in Tanner Park in Copiague.
The pair was charged with three counts each of animal abandonment and once count of conspiracy to commit a crime, both misdemeanors.
