A man and his dog were both struck and killed while walking on a busy Long Island street. The incident happened in Amityville, near the intersection of Broadway and Loudon Avenue, at around 6:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 30. Suffolk County Police said the victim was walking his dog when they were struck by an Acura heading northbound on Broadway. The victim, identified as 52-year-old Roy Mathes, of Amityville, was taken to Good Samaritan University Hospital in West Islip, where he was pronounced dead, police said. His dog died at the scene.
