Fatal Trenton House Fire Called 'Suspicious'
UPDATED: Authorities are investigating the cause of a fatal house fire that is considered suspicious. An elderly man was killed in the three-alarm blaze in Trenton on Tuesday night. After the fire was extinguished, the body of the dead man was found in fire debris, according to Casey DeBlasio, a spokeswoman with the Mercer County Prosecutor's Office. The blaze broke out about 8:30 p.m. in a home that was cluttered with hoarded belongings on the 700 block of Southard Street, authorities said. Two residents were rescued and 14 displaced in a Newark fire that left one firefighter injured early Thursday morning. Firefighters rescued two residents from the three-story, wooden-framed building at 258 South 11th St., that was smoking heavily from the basement and third floor windows around 2:40 a.m., Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Plainfield Street Fire Injures Two Firefighters; Arson and Bomb Squad Investigating Cause
Two firefighters were injured while battling a Plainfield Street house fire Sunday. The blaze at 588 Plainfield was extinguished at around 1:30 a.m. July 19, according to the Springfield Fire Department. Emergency responders battled the fire for nearly three hours. An 80-year-old resident was taken to St. Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston with severe burns after two Lodi police officers rescued him from a garden apartment fire Monday afternoon, authorities said.
