A pair of brothers from Newark have been arrested in the murder of a local grandmother celebrating her birthday, authorities announced.
Jonathan Ritchie, 21, of Newark and Josiah Ritchie, 19, killed Debra Derrick, 63, who was celebrating her birthday and that of her late twin sister when she was shot on the front porch of her home in March 2021, Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens, II, said.

A 19-year-old man was arrested in Atlanta, GA in connection with a fatal June 2021 Baltimore shooting, police said.
James Smith was being held without bail on a first-degree murder charge for the June 21, 2021 death of Dwayne Edmonds, 32, Baltimore police announced. Smith was arrested on Feb. 3, they said.
The shooting happened at a store on the 2500 block of Orleans for a reported shooting just after 3 p.m., where police found Edmonds suffering from gunshot wounds. He was taken to John Hopkins Hospital and died shortly after.
