The Red Cross, Fort Lee officials and community members are working to assist dozens of families displaced by a fire that tore through an apartment building. A temporary shelter was in place at Fort Lee High School for residents of the Linwood Park complex, which was destroyed by the blaze that started in the basement around 4 p.m. Thursday. Special Needs Students OK After School Van Catches Fire In Glen Rock
UPDATE: Two special needs students and three workers were safely removed to a nearby store after a school van caught fire Thursday afternoon in Glen Rock. Fair Lawn and Glen Rock firefighters doused the blaze outside an office building on Harristown Road near the northbound Route 208 exit ramp to South Maple Avenue, borough Police Sgt. An attempt to unclog a toilet at the Garden State Plaza sent one person to the hospital for chemical exposure Wednesday, authorities said. The shopper was transported after a mall maintenance worker and plumber poured two different types of chemicals down the same drain causing a hazardous condition, local police said. Body Of Homeless Man, 59, Pulled From Passaic River In North Arlington
Bergen County prosecutor's investigators were investigating the discovery Saturday of the body of a 59-year-old homeless man pulled from the Passaic River in North Arlington. Initial indications were that the death of the man -- who was divorced and most recently lived in Wallington -- wasn't suspicious, responders said. The body was discovered off River Road just before 10:30 a.m. and brought to the Kearny Boathouse deck before being collected by Bergen County authorities. Notifications were being made to next of kin who live outside the U.S., they said.

5th-Grade Girl, Beloved Teacher Killed In Paramus School Bus Crash
UPDATE: A young female student and a beloved teacher were confirmed dead Thursday morning after a school bus filled with Paramus fifth-graders collided with a dump truck on Route 80 in Morris County. A total of 38 students and seven adults, including the driver, were taken to area hospitals, authorities said. Some were in critical condition and undergoing surgery, they said. Hackensack Middle Schooler Brings BB Guns To School
HACKENSACK, N.J. -- A Hackensack Middle School student who brought two BB guns in with him on Monday was detained by police and then sent home, authorities said. A source with knowledge of the situation said it was the second time it had recently happened at the Union Street school, which has roughly 1,500 students in grades 5-8.
