Long Island Man Accused Of Stealing Sneakers At Knifepoint, Police Say
A Long Island man was arrested after allegedly stealing a pair of sneakers from a man he was supposed to buy them from.
Alexander Almonte, age 20, was arrested around 4:50 p.m., Tuesday, June 1, by Nassau County Police in Bethpage.
According to detectives, the victim, a 20-year-old man, agreed to sell sneakers to an Almonte through Facebook Marketplace.
Both agreed to meet at the 7-Eleven located at 4220 Hempstead Turnpike. As the victim was showing the sneakers to Almonte he grabbed the sneakers and ran southbound on Seitz Drive, police said.

The light at the end of the COVID-19 tunnel is nearing on Long Island, which continues to see improved numbers as the region continues to combat the virus.
Like the rest of the state, Long Island continues to see the positive infection rate for those tested for COVID-19 dropping, down to 1.45 percent on Thursday, May 6, an improvement from 2.05 percent a week ago.
The seven-day average COVID-19 positivity rate in New York has dropped for the 32nd straight day, to 1.53 percent, the lowest since Oct. 30 last year, while the one-day average hit 1.22 percent, the lowest since Oct. 22.
