Social Media Threat Involving Bombs, Guns, Suicide Vest Deemed A Hoax
Bergenfield police were trying to determine who authored a social media thread full of threats to kill people in a variety of ways in retaliation against Black Lives Matter. “We are aware of an alarming Twitter post going around social media,” Bergenfield police wrote in their own post. “We want to thank everyone who reached out to the department to report this. The matter is being investigated.” Similar posts -- with different names and the exact same wording -- have appeared on social media in recent months. The latest thread bore a name, a Bergenfield address and a time stamp that …

'Selfish, Clownish': Mayor Slams Atlantic City Protest That Ended In 7 Arrests
Seven protestors including the event's organizer were arrested during a Black Lives Matter march through Atlantic City streets, which the city's mayor called "selfish and clownish" after futile attempts to postpone it. Mayor Marty Small Jr. met with organizer Steve Young earlier in the week to try to postpone the July Fourth march. Small, who watched the march, said he supports peaceful protests but that Young's -- which began at 1 p.m. July Fourth -- was "selfish" and "clownish." Starting at 1 p.m. outside of the city's public safety building, protestors chanted the names of those w…

Westchester Leaders Suggest Parents Attend A BLM Rally For Ideas On Teaching About Racism
A Black Lives Matter rally can be a great place for parents to learn the complex issues of racism so they can better explain it to their children. There are plenty in the communities around Westchester with many run by youth, often students of high school age so would appeal to children, young people and their parents. They are "family-friendly" events, according to County Legislator Damon Maher. He's been to 17 marches in recent weeks and was planning on speaking at one in New Rochelle on Friday, July 3 that was canceled because of weather. "They're definitely family-friendly. They are saf…

What do you do when your mom is President Trump's counsel and your father is an anti-Trump Republican? You educate yourself and form your own opinions, according to Alpine native Claudia Conway -- who did just that and is urging others to do the same via the video-sharing app TikTok. “Believe it or not, you can have your own opinions and not be influenced by your parents at all -- simply by educating yourself!” said Conway, 15, in a recent post. “My views have absolutely nothing to do with my mom’s, so please stop commenting about her. Stop commenting about my dad… go find another hobby, s…

A Westchester town is making changes after facing backlash for ordering a resident to remove a “Black Lives Matter” banner quoting Martin Luther King Jr. earlier this week. Officials in Eastchester are reviewing and revising the town code in an effort to “update and clarify provisions therein” after a homeowner was threatened with a fine to remove a banner he put up at his home. “INJUSTICE ANYWHERE IS A THREAT TO JUSTICE EVERYWHERE,” the banner read outside an Eastchester home. The town code states that “signs or exterior displays consisting of banners, pennants, flags (except for one Ame…
