Rooftop Fire Doused At Paramus Macy's
Firefighters made quick work of a smoky rooftop blaze at the Macy's in the Paramus Park mall on Sunday. A large transformer in a rooftop parapet caught fire shortly after 12:30 p.m., Oct. 1. There was initial concern when the fire went to three alarms. In the end, the rooftop damage was minor, responders said. Paramus firefighters assisted by their colleagues from Oradell had the bulk of the blaze knocked down in barely a half hour. Jeep Rams Electrical Box In Ridgewood
Bollards planted around a roadside electrical box mostly did their job during an early-morning crash Wednesday in Ridgewood. No injuries were reported after a Jeep Wrangler and Mercedes sedan collided outside the Bergen County Duck Pond in front of Valley Health Systems on East Ridgewood Avenue near Paramus Road shortly before 7:30 a.m. Sept. 13. Broken Arm, Facial Injuries Reported In Paramus Crash
A crash at a busy Paramus intersection sent an occupant to the hospital with a broken arm and facial injuries, responders said. The woman was in a Honda CRV that broadsided a Tesla at Paramus Road and West Midland Avenue around 1:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 9. Another occupant and a small dog in the Honda escaped injury. Water Main Break Opens Gaping Hole Off Route 208
A water main break Friday afternoon closed the entrance and exit ramps at a Route 208 interchange in Fair Lawn. The ramps along northbound Route 208 at Berdan Avenue off Plaza Road were affected after the road buckled under the water pressure, leaving a gaping hole, shortly after lunchtime Sept. 8. No vehicle damage or incidents were reported as a result. However, many residents reported brown water coming out of their taps. A driver was hospitalized after his sedan was broadsided by a Jeep in Ridgewood early Wednesday afternoon. The Cherokee driver was OK after his vehicle t-boned the Subaru Legacy at the intersection of Walthery and Linwood avenues around 1:30 p.m. Sept. 6. Baby On Board: 'Infantry' Rescues Woman Who Gave Birth After Crash Off Route 17
A pregnant woman being driven to the hospital gave birth after a brand-new SUV was involved in a collision just off Route 17. The driver of a work van that may have been involved in the crash off the northbound highway at Linwood Avenue immediately drove the mom, dad and child to The Valley Hospital in Ridgewood shortly after 7 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 6. Civilian Struck, Killed By Commuter Train In Fair Lawn
A 66-year-old man was struck and killed by a commuter train Thursday night in Fair Lawn. The man was struck by an NJ Transit train just off Fair Lawn Avenue across from the Radburn station platform shortly before 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 31. Witnesses said it appeared he ran in front of the express train, which didn't have a stop there. It wasn't immediately clear whether he was trying to get to the other side or not, they said. A missing stop sign may have contributed to a multi-vehicle crash Saturday morning in Ridgewood. One of the drivers was taken by ambulance to the Valley Hospital nearby with injuries that weren't considered life-threatening. No injuries were reported after a minivan and an SUV collided in Ridgewood. The Toyota minivan got knocked onto the sidewalk and nearly slammed into an office building on East Ridgewood Avenue at the corner of North Maple shortly before 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 24. Uniform-Clad Martial Arts Instructor With 'Swords' Seen Near Fair Lawn School, Police Called
A martial arts instructor caused a bit of a stir in Fair Lawn on Wednesday when she was spotted in uniform near an elementary school carrying what turned out to be a pair of harmless swords, authorities confirmed. Police responded to a call near the Thomas Edison School on Fair Lawn Avenue at 10:15 a.m. Aug. 23 and found the 60-something woman, who apparently spoke little or no English. Downtown Ridgewood Business Reportedly Burglarized
Ridgewood police confirmed that they're investigating a reported burglary at a downtown commercial business. Police were called to the company on East Ridgewood Avenue on Aug. 16. They were told a break-in had occurred within the previous few days. Ridgewood Capt. Glenn Ender confirmed that police took the report and are investigating. He didn't elaborate. Ticketed Driver Dumps Full Soda Cup Into Ridgewood Parking Agent's Car, Flees, But Guess What?
A motorist who found a ticket on his illegally parked vehicle in Ridgewood dumped a full cup of soda through the open driver's side window of a nearby parking agent's vehicle on Friday. A village police officer and patrol supervisor quickly responded to the scene of the Aug. 18 afternoon incident on Chestnut Street near East Ridgewood Avenue.
