Eduardo Vega, age 58, of Islip Terrace, was sentenced to 25 years behind bars in Suffolk County Court on Thursday, Oct. 17, in the death of 34-year-old Roshane McLaren. A two-vehicle Long Island crash left one of the drivers seriously injured. It happened around 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct.13, in Hauppauge. A 33-year-old man from Brentwood was driving a 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee northbound on Joshuas Path, near Stonehenge Lane. He attempted to make a right-hand turn into a parking lot and was struck by a 2016 Yamaha motorcycle that was trying to go around the Jeep, according to Suffolk County Police. Authorities are asking for help in locating a 15-year-old girl from Long Island who has been missing for several days. Alexa Foth, of Brentwood, was last seen on Monday, Sept. 30, according to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children. She may be traveling with a male companion, relatives said. A Long Island man whose abuse and stalking of his former girlfriend culminated in a knifepoint kidnapping will spend decades behind bars. Holmark Garces, age 35, of Bay Shore, was sentenced to 27 to 30 years in prison in Suffolk County Court on Monday, Sept. 30. Seven people are facing charges after an overnight sobriety checkpoint on Long Island. Police officers from the Suffolk County Police Department’s Highway SAFE-T Team (Selective Alcohol Fatality Enforcement Team) conducted the joint operation in the LIRR parking lot in Central Islip located at 870 Suffolk Ave., from 11 p.m. Friday, Aug. 30 until 2:35 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 31.
