): Gas Tanker Flips From One Side Of Route 17 To Other, Dealership Destroyed
In nothing short of a miracle, no serious injuries were reported after a gas tanker truck exploded into a huge fireball on Route 17 Monday morning. A used car dealership and many of its two dozen or so vehicles were destroyed in the five-alarm blaze after the truck and a passenger vehicle collided near the U-turn at the White Castle on the highway's southbound side in Hasbrouck Heights at 5:43 a.m. Jan. 8. Smoky Post-Christmas House Fire Ravages Passaic Home
A smoky house fire in Passaic went to four alarms the day after Christmas. No injuries were immediately reported in the blaze, which ignited in a Van Buren Street home near Central Avenue around 11 a.m., Passaic Mayor Hector Carlos Lora said. "All tenants are reported to be out and safe," the mayor said around noon. "Nobody appears to be in the building." Firefighters were quickly removed after a partial ceiling collapse, Lora said. An out-of-state man ignited a fire while smoking pot in a trailer off Route 120 in Carlstadt, authorities said. Detective Sgt. Mark Wong was headed north on the highway when he saw smoke coming from the roof of the trailer on the Home Improvement Team property less than a mile north of the Meadowlands shortly before 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 22. A convicted embezzler who’d apparently made a fresh start fled to Germany with $600,000 of a Bergen County realtor and commercial property manager’s money, authorities said. A 29-year-old licensed nurse has been arrested following the death of a disabled man after a school bus ride in Morris County, authorities said. Emelio J. Rivera, of Carlstadt, was charged with second-degree endangerment and neglect of a disabled person, Morris County Prosecutor Robert J. Carroll said Thursday, Nov. 2. Driver In NJ Turnpike Crash Under the Influence, State Police Charge
A driver was under the influence of drugs when he crashed his sedan on the New Jersey Turnpike in Bergen County, State Police said. The 24-year-old driver from Staten Island was headed south on the western spur in Carlstadt when he crashed his Lexus NX at 5:44 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 20, NJSP Sergeant First Class Philip Curry said. Firefighters extricated the driver, who refused medical attention at the scene, the sergeant said. State Police charged him with DUI and issued several motor vehicle summonses, he said.

Everyone OK In Overnight East Rutherford House Fire
Fears of a possibly trapped resident proved unfounded during an overnight house fire in East Rutherford. First-floor residents were vacating the two-family home on Rose Street near Paterson Avenue as first responders arrived at 2:35 a.m., Police Capt. Jeff Yannacone said. A search determined there was no one home upstairs, where the two-alarm kitchen fire originated, he said. Firefighters had the fire doused in under a half hour. No injuries were reported.
