Truck Driver Hospitalized After Rollover Crash In Mahopac
The driver of a dump truck was hospitalized after a rollover crash that brought down a pole and power lines in Mahopac on Wednesday. The still-energized 13,000-volt wires above the wreck on Long Pond Road near Pleasant Road prevented first-responders from approaching or removing the loan driver from the truck, said Tom Beatty of the Mahopac Volunteer Fire Department. By order of MVFD Chief Bill Nikisher, the road was closed to all traffic by Carmel Police, MVFD personnel and with the assistance of MFVFD Chief Brian Sacher. Mahopac Falls Firefighters Save Family's Home
A Mahopac Falls family were able to stay in their home following a fire Tuesday thanks to the quick work of firefighters. The fire, at 85 Concord Drive, started around 1:30 p.m. on the outside of the home, said officials with the Mahopac Falls Fire Department. When Mahopac Falls firefighters arrived on scene they found low-hanging electrical wires as well as a downed tree. To help douse the flames until the electric company truck could arrive, hose lines were laid to the scene several hundred feet away. Ambulance Slides Off Road With Patient Onboard In Putnam
An ambulance crash has been cleared in Putnam County, according to Carmel Police. The ambulance, carrying a patient, slid off the icy roadway around 7:23 a.m. Friday at 211 Drewville Road, police said. There was no word of additional injuries. The roadway is open and moving, police said.

Putnam Sheriff Calls School Resource Officers 'Instrumental'
In light of the deadly massacre in Parkland, Florida, the Putnam County Sheriff’s Department has reviewed its school safety procedures and evaluated its preparedness in an effort to reassure the public and to make sure the department is ready to react to any situation. Putnam County Sheriff Robert L. Langley, Jr. said every school in the county has “Emergency Response Plans” on file with the department and that all comply with state standards. Mahopac Man Found Passed Out In Vehicle Caught With Cocaine, Police Say
A Mahopac man was busted for possession of drugs after Carmel Police officers found him passed out in a vehicle, police said. Michael Gouveia, 35, was arrested Nov. 9, 2017, after officers responded to a call of a person passed out in a vehicle. A search of the vehicle resulted in the discovery of cocaine, Carmel police said. Gouveia was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance, unlicensed operation of a vehicle, driving without a license and having a suspended registration and unregistered vehicle. He was released on $100 bail pending a future court date.
