$1.5M Settlement For Family Of Fairfield County Novelist Killed In Crash The wife of a Fairfield County novelist who died in a July 2017 auto crash has received a $1.5 million settlement after suing the driver who crossed the center lane hitting his vehicle head-on. Man Who Illegally Transported Endangered Snakes Sentenced In Bridgeport A man who illegally collected and shipped endangered snakes to his Connecticut house was sentenced to three years' probation by U.S. Magistrate Judge William I. Garfinkel in Bridgeport. William Carl Bartlett, 66, of Eastpoint, Florida and formerly Cheshire, Conn., was also ordered to pay a $5,000 fine and perform 300 hours of community service. An investigation was launched late last year, when Cheshire resident Jonathan Martin, 36, allegedly wrote a Westport resident the bad check, and after several unsuccessful attempts to collect the monies due, Martin’s victim filed a police report on Oct. 6 last year, which led to a warrant for his arrest.
