Team USA will make its return to the Olympics in women's field hockey and a duo from New Jersey helped the 16-player squad earn a summer trip to France. The U.S. beat Japan 2-1 in the semifinals of the International Hockey Federation (FIH) Olympic Qualifiers in Ranchi, India, on Thursday, Jan. 18. More than 14,000 customers across the Jersey Shore are without power on Monday, Jan. 10, after strong winds and rain raced across New Jersey overnight. Most of those who lost electricity are in Monmouth County, according to utility companies. Jersey Central Power & Light (JCP&L) said 10,489 customers were without power as of 11 a.m. Those included 2,169 customers in Marlboro, 1,238 in Millstone, and 1,088 in Colts Neck. JCP&L's outage map also said 1,901 customers lost power in Ocean County. That included 725 customers in Jackson, 564 in Toms River, and 216 in Plumsted…

Tennis Pro Gets 56 Years For Sex Crimes Against Student On Jersey Shore: Prosecutor
A former youth tennis instructor convicted at trial of numerous sexual crimes committed against a student has been sentenced to 56 ½ years in New Jersey State Prison, authorities said. Terry Y. Kuo, 32, of Colts Neck must serve a minimum of 85 percent of that term before the possibility of parole, according to Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond S. Santiago. Kuo will be 72 by the time he becomes eligible for parole, after which he will be subject to parole supervision for life, Santiago said. Three-Alarm Fire Guts 4 Condos In Aberdeen
A three-alarm fire damaged four condominiums in Aberdeen early Thursday, Nov. 30, authorities said. The fire broke out at about 3:10 a.m. at Wyndham Condominiums on Winchester Court, according to Aberdeen Police Chief Mattew Lloyd. Four condo units were damaged by the fire, two seriously, Lloyd said. The American Red Cross along with Aberdeen and Monmouth County Office of Emergency Management were assisting the victims, he said. There were no injuries to occupants or first responders. An 18-year-old Jersey Shore senior due to graduate from high school next month was killed in a crash, authorities said. Lauren Hewski, a senior at Saint John Vianney High School in Holmdel, was identified as the victim in the fatal wreck at about 12:30 p.m. Thursday May 11 on Laird Road in Colts Neck, according to multiple media accounts.
