HIM? Newark Man Accused Of Robbing Pregnant Woman
Police are looking for a 52-year-old Newark man suspected of trying to rip a gold chain off the neck of a pregnant woman last month. The woman, who was seven months pregnant, was walking down the 400 block of Market Street around 11:30 a.m. May 8 with another woman and a child when a man approached them and tried to steal the chain. Both women struggled with the man, who punched the other woman in the face before fleeing the scene on foot. UPDATE, June 17: Police have identified three suspects and have one in custody. Police in Newark are investigating a "horrific" animal cruelty incident involving a dog that was found dead early Friday morning. People living near Columbia Avenue and Plymouth Street were awoken around 3 a.m. by the sound of young people knocking over garbage cans. Residents later found that cars had been damaged in the area. Newark Teen Charged In Newark, East Newark Street Robberies
A 17-year-old boy from Newark was charged in two robberies occurring Sunday in Newark and East Newark, law enforcement in both communities said. On Tuesday, Newark's Director of Public Safety Anthony Ambrose announced that the youth had been charged in a robbery on Ferry Street near Jefferson Street in which two people emerged from a car and beat a woman shortly before 7 a.m. The woman's injuries were non-life-threatening, police said. Church In Newark Burglarized Over The Weekend
Police are asking the public's help locating a man who broke into a Newark church just after midnight Sunday and tried to make off with a safe. The burglary occurred sometime before 1 a.m. at Chosen Generation Ministries at 145 Hudson St. The burglar dropped the safe as he left the church but made off with a laptop and office equipment.
