If Democrats Wrest Control Of US Senate, NJ's Menendez Lands Key Leadership Post
When the dust settles, and the fate of the U.S. Senate majority is decided, New Jersey's senior senator could land one of the top leadership posts. But it's likely to take days -- or even weeks -- to know the outcome as Senate races in Georgia and North Carolina remained too close to call on Wednesday. Bob Menendez, a U.S. senator since 2006, is widely considered the leading contender to become chairman of the Senate Foreign Affairs Committee. But that's only if Democrats retake a majority of seats in the Senate -- which they lost control of six years ago. According to Politico and ot…

19: CT Congresswoman Jahana Hayes Tests Positive
Congresswoman Jahana Hayes, whose district comprises much of northwestern Connecticut, has tested positive for COVID-19. “This morning I received a positive COVID-19 test result and will be quarantined for the next 14 days,” said the 47-year-old Hayes in a statement released Sunday, Sept. 20. The news comes a day after a staffer whom Hayes said she had been in close contact with tested COVIC positive. “After going to two urgent care centers yesterday, I finally got an appointment at a third site and was tested this morning," Hayes said. "Contrary to popular belief, members of Co…

22-Year-Old From Hudson Valley Running For State Senate
An upstart 22-year-old from the area announced his intention to run for the New York State Senate. Rockland resident Matthew Weinberg, a Republican, is the latest candidacy to throw his hat into the ring for the New York State Senate District 38 seat that has been held by Democratic Sen. David Carlucci since 2010. Carlucci will be challenging for the retiring Nita Lowey’s seat in New York’s 17th congressional district. In a statement, Weinberg, of Suffern, cited "disunity within his district, depressed property values due to some of the highest property and school taxes in the nation,…

A State Senate candidate is going on the attack, reportedly filing a lawsuit against the Norwalk Police Department and a local news site for leaking information on a drunk driving arrest several years ago. Republican Marc D’Amelio has delivered a lawsuit to the Norwalk law department, though it hasn’t been filed with the state Supreme Court in Stamford, The Hour reported this week. The lawsuit names the City of Norwalk and news website Nancy on Norwalk as the defendants in the case. The lawsuit alleges that police leaked the information to the online news outlet “in a blatant attempt to inf…

Flash From The Past: Lamont Meets With Ex-CT Governor Lowell Weicker
Governor-elect Ned Lamont of Greenwich has been speaking to past and present governors from Connecticut and other states to seek their advice. Lamont also attended a National Governors Association conference in Colorado Springs this past weekend. The gathering was intended to be a boot camp to help incoming state chief executives prepare for their new jobs. The Democrat lunched with lame duck Gov. Dannel P. Malloy after the Nov. 6 election and later met with former Gov. Lowell P. Weicker Jr., a Republican-turned-independent. Lamont spoke to Weicker on Thursday, Nov. 15 to discuss what he l…

How Stefanowski Has Closed In On Lamont In 'Real Nail-Biter' Governor's Race
A new public opinion poll released on Tuesday, Oct. 30 confirms that Republican gubernatorial candidate Bob Stefanowski has closed on Democrat Ned Lamont, making the race a statistical tossup. The Quinnipiac University poll of likely voters found that Lamont’s lead over Stefanowski has shrunk by half to four percentage points, within the margin of error. It also found that last week's undecided voters are beginning to make up their minds about who to elect on Nov. 6. Only four percent of likely voters remain undecided in the Quinnipiac poll, but 13 percent of those who preferred a candidat…

Anthony Scaramucci Puts His Money Behind Stefanowski Endorsement
The so-called "Mooch" has kicked in a maximum campaign contribution for Republican gubernatorial candidate Bob Stefanowski. Anthony Scaramucci, a former Wall Street financier who lasted less than two weeks as White House communications director for President Donald Trump last year, gave $3,500 to Democrat Ned Lamont's challenger, according to media reports. Lamont, a cable TV entrepreneur from Greenwich, meanwhile, contributed another $8 million of his own money to the campaign account, already flush with $5 million more than Stefanowski's balance, according to the latest campaig…

New Yorkers Feeling More Confident About Spending Money, Poll Shows
A new poll by Siena College Research Institute discovered that New Yorkers are feeling more confident about spending money. The public-opinion survey from the second quarter of 2018 found that New York residents plan to buy motor vehicles, electronics and furniture more than they had in the previous three months. However, their spending plans dipped for home improvements. “For the 15th consecutive quarter, consumer sentiment across New York state is well above the optimism/pessimism breakeven point," said Douglas A. Lonnstrom, professor of statistics and finance and SCRI founding direc…

Scarsdale Investor Declines Gubernatorial Run
Gov. Andrew Cuomo's potential opponents are stepping aside. Harry Wilson, a Scarsdale businessman considered the frontrunner for the Republican nomination, announced on Facebook Monday that he will not be running for governor, citing family reasons. Cuomo, a Democrat, is running for a third term this year. Wilson joins Dutchess County Executive Marc Molinaro and former Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino, who also announced they will not be challenging Cuomo. "I have been wrestling with two incredibly powerful but, ultimately, competing forces – a deep desire to serve and make …
