Lightning Strike Burns Electrical Panel At Area Home
An intense thunderstorm over the weekend in the Rhinebeck area kept firefighters on the run, especially when a house was struck by lightning. The incident took place around 2:56 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 3, on Montgomery Street off Route 9 in Rhinebeck, said Rhinebeck Fire Department Spokesman Jeff Cotter. Arriving crews encountered smoke showing from the eaves of the home and a significant amount of smoke throughout the house, Cotter said. ID Released For Man Killed After Tree Limb Lands On Car Near Fairfield/Bridgeport Border
A 21-year-old man killed after a tree limb fell on his vehicle near the border of Fairfield and Bridgeport has been identified. Jarrod Marotto of Southington was killed around 5:15 p.m., Wednesday, July 17, when a large tree limb fell on the driver's side of his vehicle in front of 3595 Park Ave., said Fairfield Police Capt. Robert Kalamaras. When officers responded they found Marotto unconscious in the driver seat, Kalamaras said. 45 Firefighters Battle Blaze At House In Westchester
A one-alarm house fire that broke out in Westchester required the work of 45 firefighters to safely extinguish. Officials at the Yonkers Fire Department say the blaze, which occurred at a private residence at 10 Aldrich Street around 10 a.m. on Sunday, April 28, was caused by an electrical malfunction. Con Edison also responded to the scene. Officials say that the fire was under control by around 10:40 a.m. with all fire companies back in service by 12 p.m. No firefighter or civilian injuries have been reported, and the home’s electrical supply is still out of service.

Man Killed After Coming Into Contact With Power Lines In Northern Westchester, Police Say
A 56-year-old man was killed after coming into contact with power lines in Northern Westchester, state police said. Troopers were dispatched to Gallows Hill Road in Cortlandt around noon on Sunday, April 28 for a report of a man fallen out of a tree. An investigation found Carlos M. Diaz, 56, of Peekskill, was employed by the homeowner for the purpose of tree trimming, and came into contact with the overhead power lines, according to police. Man Severely Burned Following Electrocution While Trimming Trees In Montgomery
A 33-year-old who was electrocuted while trimming trees has been flown to a special burn unit out of state. The man, who works for Par 5 Landscaping, was trimming trees around 12:41 p.m., Tuesday at 318 Lake View Drive, in the Town of Montgomery when either his tool or the branches touched a live power line, said Montgomery Police Sgt. Jon Vantassel. The man, who was working in a bucket truck, was electrocuted and received severe burns, Vantassel said. A car became engulfed in flames after wires fell on the vehicle, killing one person, according to the Danbury Police Department. A Mahopac Falls family were able to stay in their home following a fire Tuesday thanks to the quick work of firefighters. The fire, at 85 Concord Drive, started around 1:30 p.m. on the outside of the home, said officials with the Mahopac Falls Fire Department.
