Just two days after proudly graduating from the DC Fire and EMS Academy, a 21-year-old probationary firefighter with a promising career ahead of her has died, officials announced.
Probationary Firefighter Sadia Williams, a member of Cadet Class 27, passed away unexpectedly while off-duty on Sunday, Aug. 24, DC Fire and EMS confirmed in a statement.
Williams had graduated on Friday, Aug. 22, and was preparing to begin her assignment at Engine Company 13 in the city’s Southwest Waterfront neighborhood.

A 27-year-old man from Malaga was killed after his car overturned multiple times in a Franklin Township crash, police said.
On Saturday, Aug. 16, at approximately 7:49 p.m., Franklin Township police responded to a single-vehicle crash on the 800 block of Marshall Mill Road, authorities said. Officers discovered the man with life-threatening injuries after he was ejected from the vehicle through the sunroof, Franklin Township police said.

Police released photos of a man wanted for slashing a 29-year-old straphanger in the face aboard a Queens F train, authorities announced.
The suspect attacked the victim while riding a southbound F train at the Jamaica–179th Street station around 4 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 9, police said.
According to a police source, the attacker approached the victim and asked, “What are you looking at?” The 29-year-old replied, “I don’t want any problems,” but was then slashed across the face with an unidentified sharp object.
