A Fort Lee man suspected of vandalizing a vehicle in Englewood Cliffs was arrested after a witness saw him do it again the following day, authorities said. Officers had taken a property damage report from an owner whose Nissan Rogue had its front and rear passenger-side tires punctured on West Bayview Avenue on Thursday, Feb. 10, Detective Lt. Ronald F. A disturbance brought Englewood police to an apartment complex where they said they found one man with a BB pistol and another wanted on a warrant. A 911 caller reported seeing several male suspects, one of them wearing a mask and pointing a gun at another, get out of a Jeep in the parking lot of the Sigma Apartments on Engle Street and then go into the building shortly before 6 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 30, Lt. Fire Investigators Examine Fort Lee House Blaze
Firefighters contained a Fort Lee house blaze to a front bedroom after a passing lieutenant saw smoke. Fire Lt. Phil Craddock was driving on the Route 1&9 overpass around 4:45 p.m. Monday when he spotted the smoke coming from the two-story home at 2068 Jones Road just below. Firefighters knocked the blaze down in under a half hour. No injuries were reported. The rest of the house beyond the fire room sustained smoke, water and ventilation damage. Downed Wires From Mini-Storm Close Stretch Of Route 9W For Hours
Sparking wires downed by the overnight storm Monday closed Sylvan Avenue in Englewood Cliffs in both directions and melted some of the roadway, authorities said. Route 9W remained closed past noon between Sage Road and Demarest Avenue while repairs were made, Detective Lt. Ronald F. Waldt said. Vehicles Destroyed In Englewood Cliffs Fire
Two vehicles were destroyed in a weekend Englewood Cliffs garage fire that spread to the home, responders said. Flames spread from the attached garage after the two-alarm fire broke out shortly before 9 p.m. at the more-than-5,136-square foot Barbara Lane home off Roberts Road near Route 9W. It was declared under control about an hour later. Mutual aid companies included firefighters from Cliffside Park, Edgewater, Englewood, Fort Lee and Leonia. No serious injuries were immediately reported.

An elderly man drowned in a backyard pool despite an intense effort by Englewood Cliffs police and other responders to revive him, authorities confirmed. Officer Bryce Jacob, responding to a 911 call, pulled the victim from the pool with the assistance of Officer Marc Krapels shortly after 5 p.m. Friday, Detective Lt. Ronald F Waldt said.
