19 Opens Jersey Shore Ice Cream Shop Named After Daughter
A DJ whose business came to a screeching halt due to COVID-19 has opened a candy and ice cream shop on the Jersey Shore. Haven’s Sweet Shop opened last month on Bay Avenue in Point Pleasant. When his DJ company Xplosive Entertainment saw a sharp decline in business this March because, Michael Langsner, 42 of Brick, knew he needed another plan. Collecting unemployment -- or as Langsner put it, "sitting on my hands waiting" -- wasn't an option. Choosing Point Pleasant Beach to start a new business was easy, as Langsner’s parents lived there for 15 years. He grew up enjoying …

Pay These NJ Teens To Hold Your Spot On Line At The MVC
When Bryanna Patterson was waiting on line at the MVC to register her car last week, she heard a man behind her in line say he'd pay someone $100 to wait for him. And so, that's exactly what 17-year-old Patterson started doing. "I put a post in 'Howell Happenings' on Facebook asking people if they needed someone to hold their spot in the lines at the MVC," Patterson told Daily Voice Thursday morning from the Eatontown center. "People reached out -- and it just kept growing." Patterson, a rising senior Freehold Township High School, recruited her cousin Alina Krupinski, 17, and …

Father, Self-Made Entrepreneur Who Helped Many Shot Dead In Paterson
TRIBUTE: A Paterson man who drew the respect, admiration and love of many was gunned down Thursday night, the fourth person shot and killed in the city over the past two weeks. But he put that behind him and became a self-made man, a selfless source of strength and goodness, friends and loved ones said. Piskunov leaves behind a 14-year-old daughter, as well as a single mom whom he's taken care of "in every single way" since she lost her husband a few years back…

College Dropouts Take Over As New Owners Of Edgewater's 'Pizza Club'
Michael Ghinelli of Wyckoff was in his junior year and distracted from classwork by designs for his own t-shirt company when a teacher told him he'd never go anywhere. That stuck with him, he said. But now, the 21-year-old has taken over Pizza Club in Edgewater with business partner Hadi Parhizkaran. And he says he's proving his teacher wrong one slice at a time. Ghinelli and Parhizkaran, also of Wyckoff, have always been motivated to work, talking about potential future business ventures when they first met as teenagers in the kitchen at Blue Moon Mexican Cafe. “We were just kids at …

Favorite Thanksgiving Recipe No Longer A Drag Thanks To Southport Grandma
Deviled eggs are a popular Thanksgiving starter but peeling hard-boiled eggs is a loathsome task. Just ask grandmother Bonnie Tyler of Southport who got "frustrated" every time she peeled eggs for her favorite recipe. The dreary task led Tyler and Sheila Torgan, also of Southport and both entrepreneurs, to invent a device that makes peeling eggs a cinch. The idea came to Tyler in 2015 the day after making a batch of deviled eggs for a cocktail party in their neighborhood. "Of course, the eggs would not peel, and I suddenly remembered why I stopped making deviled eggs," she said. The next…

Hipatia Lopez of Elmwood Park has an important message for other young, Latina entrepreneurs: Si se puede. New Milford Cafe Owner: 'Fill Your Own Cup First'
You’ve got to fill your own cup before you can fill someone else’s. That’s long been the guiding principle for Chirag Trivedi of New Milford, who gave the motto a literal meaning when he opened TimeOut cafe on River Edge Avenue last year. TimeOut is a place to do just that, said Trivedi, who leads by example. Trivedi moved to the U.S. after high school from Bombay, India, to study computer science at North Carolina State University. He worked at Baskin Robbins to fund his education but quickly ballooned up from 180 to 235 pounds with all the ice cream he was eating. He knew if he wanted…
