Teen, Sibling Escape Parsippany House Fire
A teenager and a a younger sibling called 911 after a fire broke out at their Parsippany home, ultimately displacing the family, authorities said. The two were on the second floor of the Allentown Road home when they smelled smoke just before fire alarms went off around 5:40 p.m. Thursday, Parsippany police said. The pair was able to get out uninjured as heavy smoke billowed from the kitchen window, authorities said. The children told officers their cat may still be inside. Paramus High School Evacuated, Small Fire Doused
A small fire briefly cleared Paramus High School early Monday afternoon. The fire broke out in a ballast that holds an electric light behind the stage area of the school auditorium shortly after 1 p.m., Police Chief Kenneth Ehrenberg said. Custodians quickly doused the blaze, he said. Paramus firefighters were joined by their Oradell colleagues and borough police. All were able to return a short time later, Ehrenberg said.

Teaneck Car Fire Spreads To Home
What began as a driveway car fire quickly became a house blaze in Teaneck Wednesday afternoon. The fire extended to a 2½-story home in the 500 block of Tilden Avenue around 4:30 p.m., a responder said, adding that everyone got out safely. As flames raced through the attic and basement, fire officials, concerned that there might be people trapped inside, raised the call to three alarms. Dogs, Cats Flee, Rabbit Dies In Pre-Dawn Haskell House Fire
Two dogs and two cats made it out safely, although a rabbit died in a destructive pre-dawn home fire Monday just off Rainbow Lake in Wanaque. Firefighters by 5 a.m. had contained the blaze to a second-floor bedroom and part of the attic in the 77-year-old, 1,740-square-foot Lakeside Avenue home. Companies from Bloomingdale and Pompton Lakes provided mutual aid at the scene, while Ringwood and West Milford provided borough coverage.

Fire Damages Warren County Businesses
A Warren County laundry center and paint store were damaged in a second-alarm fire. Heavy smoke billowed out the back of TNT Laundry Center and Sherwin-Williams paint store on Washington Avenue in Washington Borough when firefighters arrived just after 11:45 p.m. Monday evening, firefighters said. Firefighters Battle Hampton Township House Fire
An elderly woman suffered burns to her hand in a fire that ravaged a Hampton Township house Tuesday, authorities said. Emergency vehicles lined Westbrook Lane to fight the second-alarm blaze, which broke out around 4:30 p.m., the Sussex County Fire Wire reported on Facebook. The first floor of a Vernon Township home collapsed in a fire Monday, fire officials said. Fire companies from the township and surrounding areas were called to the Route 94 southbound home around 1:12 p.m. for the second-alarm blaze, Vernon Township Fire Marshall Lou Tosto said. Two men trying to get inside a burning Dumont home where a pit bull died in a wind-blown Friday morning fire had to be arrested -- including one who "picked up and threw" a police officer against a car, authorities said.
