Two men who attempted to scam a Long Island woman out of thousands were intercepted by police thanks to the potential victim’s quick thinking, authorities said.
On Wednesday, May 3 at about 4:15 p.m., a Rockville Centre woman, age 69, received a call from someone claiming to be her grandson, according to the Nassau County police.
Another person, who introduced himself as “Michael Waller,” told the woman he was her grandson’s attorney, and that he needed $17,000 cash in order to bail her grandson out.

A 21-year-old man who allegedly robbed a Long Island Walmart store and injured an employee has been arrested, according to authorities.
Officers responded to the Valley Stream Walmart, located at 77 Green Acres Road, on Tuesday, May 2 at approximately 1:10 p.m. in regards to a reported robbery.
The thief, who was caught walking past the checkout with unpaid items, was confronted by the store’s Loss Prevention Officers.

Officer Injured During Long Island Arrest, Police Say
The officer sustained injuries when a Long Island man resisted arrest, according to the police.
The incident occurred at 10 p.m. on Sunday, April 23 in West Hempstead.
According to the detectives, who were on patrol at the time of the incident, two men were drinking alcohol and walking in the street near Woodfield Road.
Upon further investigation, the police claim, they decided to put Aaron F. Martin, age 43, under arrest.

The incident occurred late on the night of Wednesday, April 12 in Inwood, according to the Nassau County Police Department.

A Long Island man was arrested after burglarizing or attempting to burglarize two homes, one ending in the death of a homeowner’s cat, police reported.
Issac Flores, a 29-year-old Copiague resident, was arrested Monday, April 10 inside a Farmingdale home he had broken into, Nassau County Police announced.
The homeowner, a 57-year-old woman, was allegedly notified by her petsitter that the back door of her home had been broken into at around 1:30 p.m.

Three men accused of stealing multiple car tires and rims from Long Island dealerships have been arrested.
Chase Barret, age 33, of Astoria; Eldorado Sterling, age 29, of Queens; and Jovanie Clarke, age 29, of Queens, were arrested on Sunday, April 2 following a traffic stop in Woodbury, according to Nassau County Police.
Officers spotted them at around 2 a.m. in a white Ford Econoline van traveling on Jericho Turnpike. The vehicle had been involved in multiple previous larcenies, police said.
