Elizabeth native Philip Deckert died Jan. 10, in Fort Lauderdale, FL. He was 34 years old.
Philip was a graduate of Kean University (Class of 2010) with a degree in criminal justice. He moved to Florida in 2014, and worked as a valet for the Colony Hotel in Palm Beach, his obituary says.
He enjoyed both playing and watching basketball, along with other sports, and played for the St. Hedwig Hawks in 1994-95 -- when they won the Elizabeth City Championship.

A Florida man is accused of embezzling more than $325,000 from a Florham Park company while working as one of its executives, said authorities who charged him.
Hector Cardona, 49, of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., was the director of travel services for the Troy Corporation when he ran up a bill on the company credit card for personal expenses, Morris County Prosecutor Fredric M. Knapp and Florham Park Police Chief Joseph Orlando said.

Long Island's MacArthur Airport Adds More Florida Flights
More flights will go to Florida from Long Island's MacArthur Airport starting in November.
The flight will run through March, according to the Town Of Islip.
The flight schedule includes ones to Fort Lauderdale throughout the year, not seasonally, and an increase in Orlando flights from one to two times a day, every day but Tuesday,

An area business owner died Sunday, June 16 at 47.
Jason Grotsky Caragine lived in Mahopac and was the owner and lead garage door technician of Door Doctor in Mahopac.
Caragine was born in Yonkers on Sept. 27, 1971, the son of Louisa Deltreste and David Grotsky. He graduated from Gorton High School in Yonkers.
Caragine was a classic car enthusiast, loved spending time with his sons and granddaughter, and enjoyed sharing his mechanical knowledge with his children and their friends.

The 29-year-old man who went missing at the Nassau University Medical Center on Hempstead Turnpike in the hamlet of East Meadow at 7 a.m. Tuesday, May 14 has been found, the New York State Public Safety Department announced on Wednesday, May 15.
Akeem Clarke was located at a hotel in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, the department said.
