Police in Franklin Township are investigating after flags were lit on fire on the morning of Saturday, Sept. 7, authorities said. At 8:23 a.m., officers responded to a property on DeMott Lane and found two custom flags, along with the mounting hardware, damaged by fire, Franklin Township police said in a release. There were no reported injuries as a result of the fire, police said. Days after a crash that killed a teen girl, officials in Hunterdon County are looking to make the intersection where she died safer with the installation of a stop sign. An "all-way stop" is being proposed for the intersection of County Route 617 (Sydney Road), Hogback Road and Lower Landsdown Road in Franklin Township, the county's board of commissioners announced. Police have identified the victim of a crash early Thursday, Aug. 22 in Hunterdon County as a 16-year-old girl. Sophia Detorres, of Franklin Township, was a passenger in a three-vehicle crash around 7:30 a.m. at the intersection of Hogback Road and Lower Lansdown Road, the county prosecutor's office announced. A 19-year-old Somerset teen was recently sentenced to five years in prison for brutally beating an employee at a business in Franklin Township in Nov. 2022, authorities said. On Nov. 23, 2022, Thanksgiving Eve, Yahmir Brown, along with a juvenile, assaulted an employee of a local business on Hamilton Street in Franklin Township, Somerset County Prosecutor John McDonald said. The employee suffered multiple facial fractures, McDonald said. Brown was sentenced after being convicted of aggravated assault in May following a weeklong trial, authorities said.

A motorcyclist was killed in a late-night crash in Somerset County, police said. Police responding to reports of a crash on Easton Avenue near DeMott Lane in Franklin Township found a crashed motorcycle around 12:15 a.m. Saturday, June 1, Franklin Township Police Lt. Vincent T.
