The Glen Ridge Police Department is mourning the loss of beloved officer Charles "Rob" Roberts who died of coronavirus. Roberts was resuscitated by his colleagues April 21 after going into cardiac arrest. He was rushed to Mountainside Medical Center, where he remained in critical condition. Affectionately known as "Mr. Glen Ridge," Roberts was a staple in the community, known for his smile, his department said. He had been a member of the department since 2000. The Newark police department is mourning the loss of longtime officer Andy Jimenez, who died of a heart attack Monday, April 20. He was 55 years old. Jimenez joined the Newark Police Division in 2001 and served in various units over his career, including criminal investigations along with the Special Enforcement and Environmental Task Force part of the Major Crimes division. Union City police officer Alex Ruperto has died of coronavirus, the department said. He was 52 years old. “Alex was kind, patient, soft-spoken and genuine," Chief Nichelle Luster said. Acclaimed Indian chef and Verona resident Floyd Cardoz died from COVID-19 at the age of 59, reports say. Cardoz, known for his roles at Indian fine dining restaurants Tabla and Bombay Bread Bar in Manhattan, came back from India via Frankfurt on March 8 “feeling feverish,” he said in an Instagram post. He admitted himself to a hospital in New York thinking he had the flu, said Lou Palma, Cardoz’s close friend. A fox that was euthanized after biting three people in Glen Ridge Friday has tested positive for rabies, borough officials said. The animal, which came into contact with at least four people, was caught on train tracks near Toney's Brook late Friday morning. A fox was euthanized Friday after it bit three people and attacked a total of five, Glen Ridge police said. Police were called to Woodland Avenue on a report of an animal bite around 9:15 a.m. The person had been bitten by a red fox, police said. As police and animal control officers from neighboring Bloomfield searched for the animal, two more people were bitten. A Glen Ridge woman and a 13-year-old girl both reported being approached by men in incidents that occurred within an hour of each other Thursday, police in Montclair said. The two complainants also described a similar vehicle involved in both incidents, police said. A student at Glen Ridge High School has been charged with making terroristic threats and creating a false public alarm for saying he would commit acts of violence at the school and would directly harm multiple students, Lt.
