A Long Island man has been apprehended after allegedly attempting to kill his mother on Christmas Day and then slitting his own wrists.
Frank Holecek, 71, of Hamptons Bay, was arrested on Friday, Dec. 25, after police received a 911 call from a residence in Hampton Bays for a person bleeding, according to authorities.
Responding officers arrived at the home and found a 97-year-old woman in the residence with her son, Holecek, with self-inflicted wounds to his wrists, Southampton Town Police Lt. Susan Ralph.

The body of a missing Long Island teen was recovered in Peconic Bay overnight, the Coast Guard announced late Sunday morning, Jan. 3, according to the Coast Coast.
Coast Guard Sector Long Island Sound personnel received a report from the Riverhead Police Department at 4:50 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 2 that the teen, Raistlin Ruther, departed Jamesport, at 8 a.m. Saturday in a blue kayak and did not return.

A Long Island man who was allegedly high on drugs, was arrested after stealing a vehicle, snatching two purses from women, and then taking police on a pursuit before crashing.
The incident took place on Friday, Nov. 27, after Southampton Town were informed by Suffolk County Police that patrol units were in search of a vehicle that was involved in a vehicle pursuit after a man had stolen a vehicle in the county police district and led officers to the Southampton Town area, said Lt. Covid-19: Long Island Sees 1,148 New Cases; Latest Updates In Nassau, Suffolk
More than 1,000 new COVID-19 cases were reported on Long Island in the past 24 hours as both Nassau and Suffolk continue to get hit by the second wave of the virus.
There were 658 new cases in Suffolk, bringing the total to 61,072 since the pandemic began, while an additional 520 infections were reported in Nassau, as the total reached 60,701, the state Department of Health reported on Monday, Nov. 30.
The number of new COVID-19 cases is the most in any county outside of Westchester, Steuben County, and New York City.
