Dumpster Fire Doused At Avalon Apartments In Wood-Ridge
A building manager kept a trash bin fire in the basement of a Wood-Ridge apartment complex from spreading and borough responders took it from there, authorities said. Wood-Ridge Lt. Jeffrey Geisler and Officers Joseph Barbiera and Michael Donato evacuated the building at the Avalon at Westmount Station apartments shortly before 9 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 18, Capt. North Jersey residents are feeling the impact of this week's storm with thousands still without power and schools closed or delayed. ): Gas Tanker Flips From One Side Of Route 17 To Other, Dealership Destroyed
In nothing short of a miracle, no serious injuries were reported after a gas tanker truck exploded into a huge fireball on Route 17 Monday morning. A used car dealership and many of its two dozen or so vehicles were destroyed in the five-alarm blaze after the truck and a passenger vehicle collided near the U-turn at the White Castle on the highway's southbound side in Hasbrouck Heights at 5:43 a.m. Jan. 8. A 27-year-old Hasbrouck Heights man who'd just gotten off a bus was struck by a car when he tried to run across a street, witnesses told police. A 58-year-old Little Ferry woman was struck and killed in East Rutherford over the weekend. The victim was struck by a Jeep Cherokee off the intersection of Paterson Avenue and Franklin Place near the Wallington border around 5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 3, East Rutherford Police Chief Dennis Rivelli said. All signs point to the death of a 56-year-old guest at a Holiday Inn off Route 17 as the result of a medical emergency, possibly a heart attack. But it’s not official yet.
