A Long Island-based company has donated more than 1,000 school supplies items to support local students in need.
Between Monday, Aug. 16, and Wednesday, Aug. 25, Widex USA hosted a virtual school supply drive in Suffolk County for students in the Brentwood School District.
The company, which manufactures hearing aids, is based in Hauppauge.
Company employees donated much-needed items including composition books, binders, pencils, notebooks, and more.

James Todarello, age 72, of Coram, was driving a 2002 Mercedes-Benz, and Nolan Grant, age 57, of Medford, was driving a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee on the westbound Long Island Expressway near Exit 57 when the vehicles crashed, Suffolk County Police said.

Two former high-ranking Suffolk County government officials have been sentenced to jail following a six-week federal jury trial.
Former Suffolk County District Attorney Thomas J. Spota and Christopher McPartland, his former anti-corruption aide were each sentenced Tuesday, Aug. 10, by US District Judge Joan M. Azrack, to five years in prison.
Additionally, Spota, age 79, of Mount Sinai, was ordered to pay a $100,000 fine.

A Long Island woman has been accused of driving while intoxicated after allegedly slamming into a police car that was stopped at a crash site with its emergency lights on.
Danielle Schimmel was arrested around 10:36 p.m., Thursday, July 15, following the crash in Ronkonkoma, said the Suffolk County Police.
According to police, Schimmel, age 27, was driving a 2019 GMC Adacia northbound on Ocean Avenue, when she crashed the vehicle into a parked patrol car facing east that was blocking traffic with emergency lights activated, at the scene of an earlier motor vehicle crash.

A Long Island community is rallying around the family of a 27-year-old teacher and expectant mom who unexpectedly died from a heart abnormality.
Rachel Quinn, an educator at the Bretton Woods Elementary School in Hauppauge, where she taught fifth-graders, died on Monday, June 14 at Long Island Community Hospital in East Patchogue.
