83 In Voluntary Isolation in Nassau County Due To Coronavirus Concerns
Officials have a message for Long Island residents regarding the coronavirus -- don't panic. During a press conference on Wednesday, Feb. 26, health and government officials said there are no confirmed cases of the virus in Nassau County. However, there are 83 people who are "self-isolating" as requested by the Nassau County Health Department due to visiting mainland China within the past 14 days, said Health Commissioner Dr. Larry Eisenstein. Gnats from a leaky sewer pipe have been driving customers away at a Jersey City shopping center. The city's health department was notified of the gnats at the Hudson Mall Shopping Center on Route 440 on Dec. 30, 2019, several media outlets report. A new state ban on the sale of flavored e-cigarettes has been put on hold for two weeks by a state appellate court just hours before it was set to take effect. Judges granted a temporary restraining order Thursday, Oct. 3, that prevents the state from enforcing the ban of flavored e-cigarettes following a lawsuit filed by Vapor Technology Association, a Washington D.C., based trade group. After working for almost a year to put an end to an outbreak of measles in Rockland County that sickened 312 residents, the outbreak has officially been declared over. A raccoon found in Parsippany tested positive for rabies. The animal was found on Minnehaha Boulevard in Lake Hiawatha, police said. An infected animal has the rabies virus in its saliva and infects other animals or people through bites and contact with saliva.
