Two women, both residents of Nassau County, claimed $1 million jackpots in recent days, according to New York Lottery.
AnnaMaria Gjomarkaj, of Hempstead, claimed a second prize Mega Millions ticket in the Oct. 1, 2024, drawing. She received a lump sump payment of $651,000 after required withholdings.
Gjomarkaj purchased the lucky ticket in Newburgh, at the Smokes 4 Less located at 59 North Plank Road.

A 23-year-old man riding his Harley-Davidson was violently attacked and robbed in the middle of a Long Island intersection.
The incident happened in New Cassel at the intersection of Prospect Avenue and Grand Street, shortly before 5 p.m. Monday, April 29.
The motorcyclist was stopped at a red light when Dester Hernandez, 32, approached him on foot, knocked him off his 1995 Harley, and began punching him repeatedly, Nassau County Police said.
After delivering multiple blows and causing “substantial pain,” Hernandez grabbed the victim’s phone and fled on foot, police said.

A Long Island man is accused of swindling a victim out of thousands through a rental scam.
Gerson Robles, 39, of Uniondale, was arrested Tuesday, April 8, on suspicion of grand larceny, according to Nassau County Police.
An investigation found that Robles accepted a $5,000 security deposit to secure a rental property that he did not actually own, police said. The victim, a 48-year-old man, signed a lease agreement and attempted to move into the home, only to discover that it was already occupied.

A gas station worker in New Hyde Park groped a teenage girl, Nassau County police announced on Friday, April 4.
Pankajkumar M. Shah, 63, of Syosset, was arrested after an incident at the Valero Gas Station located at 1501 Jericho Turnpike, according to detectives.
Shah, while employed at the gas station, allegedly grabbed and forcibly touched a 16-year-old girl around 3:25 p.m., police said. The victim immediately fled the scene and called authorities, detectives said.

A Long Island teenager was located after being missing for several days.
Malaki Jackson, 13, had last been seen in Hempstead at around 8 a.m. Friday, March 28, according to Nassau County Police. He was reported missing the following afternoon.
On Monday night, March 31, police announced that Jackson had been located. No other details were given.
