New Canaan Home Burglarized While Family Away On Vacation, Police Say
Following a home burglary in New Canaan in which the family was away on vacation, police are asking residents to be sure and secure their residences. The burglary was discovered around 10:51 a.m. Monday, Aug. 13, at a home on Route 106 (Silvermine Road) when the family returned from vacation and found they had been the target of thieves, said New Canaan Police Chief Leon Krolikowski. An Elmwood Park homeowner got into a violent struggle with a burglar who was eventually caught by police after an overnight break-in spree Monday. FRANKLIN LAKES, N.J. – Franklin Lakes police were tallying the amount of jewelry taken while investigating an evening home burglary. A Bayberry Lane resident reported the residence ransacked sometime 5:30 and 9:40 p.m. Monday, Capt. Two people forced their way into a New Hempstead home while the residents were at home, but fled before police arrived, according to the Ramapo Police Department.
