Hiker Finds Woman's Body Near Vanderbilt Mansion Hyde Park, Police Say
Police are asking the public for help identifying an elderly woman who was found dead by a hiker near the Vanderbilt Mansion historical site in the Hudson Valley. The grim discovery of the woman whose death is considered suspicious was found around 12 p.m. by the hiker on Friday, Dec. 6, on Vanderbilt Park Road in Hyde Park. A man sustained serious injuries, and his passenger died after a single-car crash in the region. It happened in Dutchess County around 7:10 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 15, in Pleasant Valley. New York State Police said a 55-year-old Poughkeepsie man was driving a 2006 Honda sedan eastbound on Sherow Road when he failed to stop at the intersection with North Avenue. A 42-year-old woman was killed in a late-night crash in the region. The incident occurred in Dutchess County at 11 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 15, near the Speedway gas station on Route 9 in Hyde Park. A man from the region has been charged with two counts of allegedly endangering the welfare of an incompetent or physically disabled person and forcible touching. Following an investigation, Dutchess County resident Garnet G. Collins, age 50, of Poughkeepsie, was arrested on Sunday, Aug. 11.
