Morris County Mom Found Dead Behind Newark Strip Mall
The body of a Morris County mom was found behind a strip mall in Newark, news reports say. The woman was later identified in a news report by RLS Media as Crystal Sperry, 46, formerly of Dover and Jefferson. Nearly $2,300 had been raised as of Thursday on a GoFundMe launched by one of her five children, Angel Sperry. Drunk Hackettstown Driver Restrained After Hitting Police Sergeant, Jefferson PD Says
A Hackettstown man being arrested on a drunk driving charge had to be restrained after hitting a Jefferson police officer, authorities said. Police found Robert Devos, 55, last month when he was stopped for erratic driving on Berkshire Valley Road, Jefferson Police Sgt. Joe Kratzel said. While being processed at Jefferson police headquarters, Devos struck a sergeant several times and had to be restrained, Kratzel said. Dump Truck Driver Dies In Jefferson Route 15 Crash, Police Say
A 70-year-old dump truck driver died in a Jefferson crash, authorities said. Gilberto Salazar, of Ledgewood, was trapped inside of his dump truck when it overturned on Route 15 northbound and Weldon Road around 2:10 p.m. on Thursday, Jefferson Police Lt. Robert Bush said. Officers extricated Salazar, who was transported to St. Clare's Dover Hospital where he was pronounced dead, Bush said. No other occupants were inside the overturned truck, police said. Authorities are investigating shooting that left bullet holes in the outside of a Jefferson home. Police responded to a report of shots fired to a house on Seneca Trail just after 11 p.m. Wednesday, Morris County Prosecutor Fredric M. Knapp said in a statement with local police. Traffic was being detoured through the former Pathmark around 11 a.m., closing the northbound side of the highway as crews worked to repair the pole at the Bowling Green Parkway intersection. Sunken Jefferson Boat Spilling Fuel Brings HazMat Presence To Lake Hopatcong
A sunken boat spilling fuel into Lake Hopatcong in Jefferson brought the Morris County hazardous materials team to the area Tuesday afternoon, authorities said. The 1:43 p.m. incident occurred near Main Lake Dock near Prospect Point, NJSP Trooper Alejandro Goez said. Goez did not know the cause of the incident as of 4 p.m. The Department of Environmental Protection, local fire department and county HazMat team were able to remove most of the fuel from the water. The search for a 24-year-old man who fell off a boat into Lake Hopatcong ended Monday morning, when another boated spotted his body on the lake, authorities said. Jason Gil, 24 of Mount Arlington, fell from a pontoon boat in Jefferson around 7:40 p.m. Saturday evening, New Jersey State Police said.
