A man who served his community for 37 years died after a long battle with cancer. Matthew King, who served as police chief in Littleton from 2014 to 2018, died on Monday, July 3 after a "courageous" battle with cancer at age 63, according to his obituary and the Littleton Police Department. He lived in Ayer and formerly lived in Bedford. King, who graduated from the University of Maine, joined the Littleton police force as a patrolman on May 11, 1981. A highly decorated and widely respected law enforcement veteran was unanimously approved as Mahwah's new police chief Monday night. Timothy O'Hara was chosen by Mayor Jim Wysocki as the 9th police chief in Mahwah's nearly 80-year-history. The Township Council approved the appointment of O'Hara at the June 19 public meeting to succeed four-year Police Chief Stephen Jaffe, whose retirement becomes effective July 1. The vote was 7-0. A former police chief who served a community in Westchester County for more than 40 years has died. Joseph DelBianco, the former chief of the Village of Mamaroneck Police Department, died on Sunday, Dec. 25 at the age of 93, according to his obituary. A member of the department for 43 years, DelBianco eventually became chief and led modernization efforts during his tenure, including the addition of computers in all police vehicles and the hiring of the village's first female officers. A Jersey Shore fire department is mourning the loss of their chief. Keyport Fire Department Chief Tim Pfleger, 32, died over the weekend, the department announced on Facebook.
