Charges Filed In Lehigh Valley Cold Case, Prosecutors Say
Investigators in Lehigh County believe they have solved a 1989 homicide. The District Attorney's Office will announce new charges in a press conference scheduled for Thursday, May 16 at 10 a.m. "No further details will be provided until the news conference," prosecutors said.

Fish Hooks Found In Dog Treats On Appalachian Trail In PA
The Pennsylvania Game Commission is warning pet owners after fish hooks were found stuffed in dog treats on the Appalachian Trail in Lehigh County. Authorities said a hiker discovered the treats near the North Trail Loop leading to the George W. Outerbridge shelter in Slatington over the weekend. "Items like these could prove deadly to any animal that consumes them, including wild and domesticated animals," the PGC said. Anyone with information or anyone who finds more tainted treats is asked to call 1-888-PGC-WILD or 1-888-PGC-HUNT.

'Large-Scale' Burglary Ring Targeted Homes In Lehigh Valley And Beyond, DA Says
Half a dozen people are charged in connection with a "large-scale" home burglary scheme, according to the Lehigh County District Attorney's Office. At a press conference on Friday, April 26, prosecutors and law enforcement said an organized ring of thieves stole more than $160,000 in goods from homes in Lehigh, Berks and Northampton counties. 30-Year-Old Sentenced Up To 14 Years For Shooting At Allentown Bar: PA AG
A Lehigh County man was convicted for attempted homicide after authorities said he fired a gun into an Allentown bar last January. Paul Kerr, 30, was sentenced to seven to 14 years in prison on Wednesday, April 24, according to the state Attorney General's Office. Authorities said Kerr walked into Pagan's Place bar on Jan. 7, 2023 and was asked to leave by the owner. Kerr "refused and proceeded to argue with Pagan" before exiting the bar, prosecutors said. : Elderly Man Shoots Wife, Then Himself In PA Home, Coroner Confirms
A 76-year-old man shot his wife then turned the gun on himself Thursday morning, April 11 in a Lehigh County home, authorities confirmed. Helen Teresa Knieriem appears to have died from a single gunshot wound and Roy T. Knieriem appears to have died from a self-inflicted gunshot, according to prosecutors and the Lehigh County Coroner's Office. Gunfire rang out at the couple's home on Taylor Drive just after 10:15 a.m., County Coroner Daniel Buglio said. No one else was present in the home, no witnesses are known to police, and no one else was injured, authorities said.

Allentown Woman Dies Months After Route 22 Rollover Crash, Officials Say
A driver who was ejected from her vehicle in a crash on Feb. 3 has died from her injuries, said the Lehigh County Coroner's Office on Monday, April 1. Iris Crystal Mercado, 37, died from multiple traumatic injuries, the coroner said in a release. Her manner of death was accidental. The crash happened in the eastbound lanes of Route 22 South Whitehall on the night of Feb. 3, officials said. State police have said Mercado lost control of her Ford Focus and struck an embankment before the car rolled over and she was ejected.

Support is on the rise for the family of a 40-year-old New Jersey truck driver shot dead allegedly by a Florida man last week at a Pennsylvania truck stop. James Alexander Hilton, 40, of Southampton, NJ, was shot and killed at an I-78 truck stop in Upper Bern Township, early Friday morning, March 22, according to Pennsylvania State Police. A suspect is in police custody after troopers said he exposed himself to a group of young children in Lehigh County on Monday, March 11. The suspect, who authorities have not named, is being held on unrelated charges in Schuylkill County, said state police in a release. VA Man Found Dead In Tractor Trailer Along I-78 In PA
A 67-year-old Virginia man was found dead inside of his tractor trailer in Pennsylvania Friday, March 1, the county coroner said. Larry H. Harris Jr.'s trailer was found parked and secured near the Exit 45 off ramp on the westbound side of I-78, in Weisenberg Township, Lehigh County around 11 a.m., Lehigh County Coroner Daniel Buglio said. An autopsy will be performed on Monday, March 4, 2024 to determine the cause of death, which was not considered suspicious, Buglio said. The Pennsylvania State Police, Fogelsville station is also investigating.

Allentown Shooting Victim ID'd As 33-Year-Old Alburtis Man: Coroner
A 33-year-old Alburtis man was killed in an Allentown shooting over the weekend, officials said. Miguel Steven Dalmasi was shot at the intersection of East Walnut Street at South Dauphin Street around 8:40 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 17, Lehigh County Coroner Daniel Buglio said. The manner of death a was ruled a homicide and an autopsy will be completed on Tuesday, Feb. 20. The Allentown Police Department, Lehigh County Homicide Task Force and the Lehigh County District Attorney's Office are investigating.
