The National Weather Service confirmed late Friday afternoon, Aug. 7 that a storm cell produced a waterspout off the ocean that made landfall as an EF-1 tornado in the Saugatuck section of Westport at about 1:40 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 4. Three Men Rescued From Raft On Long Island Sound Police officers came to the rescue of a group of boaters who were fighting a losing battle against the current while rafting on the Long Island Sound. Suffolk County Police Marine Bureau officers on patrol at 6 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 2 found three men in an eight-foot raft in the water more than a mile off Sunken Meadow State Park, where they had launched from. Man Clinging To Kayak Without Life Jacket Rescued In Long Island Sound A 27-year-old man holding on to his kayak without a life jacket was rescued in the Long Island Sound  It happened on Wednesday, July 8 at around 11 p.m. off the coast of Oyster Bay, approximately half mile from Center Island, Nassau County Police said. Nassau County Marine Bureau 5 discovered the man yelling for help. He was then recovered from the water by Marine Bureau and brought back to shore.  He was treated by Nassau County medical personnel and in stable condition.

Boaters, Kayaker Rescued In Separate Long Island Sound Incidents Three stranded boaters and a kayaker were rescued in two separate Long Island Sound incidents off the coast of Fairfield County. City of Stamford firefighters, manning the Fireboat 236, rescued the kayaker in distress at around 4:15 p.m. Monday, July 6 after a telephone report prompted the response of the city's emergency services, the Stamford Fire Department said.  The vicitim was reported to be on a breakwall off on Greenway Island.
