Long Island Man Charged With DWI After Passenger Injured In Fiery Crash, Police Say
A Long Island man has been arrested for alleged DWI following an early morning crash that caused the vehicle to burst into flames and left a woman seriously injured.
The crash took place around 3 a.m., Monday, July 19, in Montauk on Route 27 (Montauk Highway), said Det. Sgt. Daniel Toia with the Town of East Hampton Police Department.
According to Toia, Wilme Chan-Herrera, age 26, of Mastic, was driving a 2019 GMC Terrain westbound on Montauk Highway when he lost control of the vehicle, striking a guard rail and a tree.

A suspect is at large after a man was found fatally shot in his Long Island home.
Suffolk County Police Seventh Precinct officers responded to a 911 call from the family of Josue Bedell, age 47, requesting a wellness check at 10:05 a.m. Sunday, July 4, saying they had been unable to get in contact with him since Saturday, July 3.
Police entered the home, located in Mastic, at Poospatuck Lane in the Poospatuck Reservation, and found Bedell, 47, dead with a gunshot wound.

A woman standing near a disabled car on the Long Island Expressway was killed after she was struck by another vehicle overnight.
It happened around 3:10 a.m. Saturday, April 24 in Yaphank.
Danyel Anderson, age 20, of Mastic, was driving a 2015 Chrysler 300 eastbound on the Long Island Expressway, west of Exit 66, when the Chrysler struck the woman standing outside a disabled 2012 Nissan Altima that was in the right lane, Suffolk County Police said.
The victim, who has not yet been identified pending notification of next of kin, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Long Island Man Accused Of Leaving Scene Of Crash Causing 7-Year-Old's Death
A Long Island man has been indicted for allegedly leaving the scene of a motor vehicle crash without reporting that resulted in the death of a 7-year-old boy.
Phuoc Truong, a/k/a Philip Truong, 32, of Southampton, was indicted on Thursday, Dec. 10, according to Suffolk County District Attorney Timothy Sini.
“This was an unspeakable tragedy, but we hope that the apprehension and indictment of this defendant bring some solace to the victim’s family,” Sini said.

Duo Nabbed For Long Island Murder
Police arrested two people for murdering a Long Island man in August.
Homicide Squad detectives charged Brooke Jackson, 41, and Umar A. El-Quhir Sr., 43, of Mastic, on Monday, Nov. 23, with murder, for the Thursday, Aug. 20, killing of Earle Foster, 52, of Hempstead, in East Patchogue, said Suffolk County Police.
Jackson will be held at the Fourth Precinct and El-Quhir Sr. will be held at the Fifth Precinct, and are scheduled for arraignment at First District Court in Central Islip on Tuesday, Nov. 24.
Foster was found dead of a gunshot wound in the courtyard of the Maple Tree Apartments.
