First Woman Named Metro-North President
Catherine Rinaldi has been named the first female president of Metro-North Railroad. Rinaldi, has served as acting president of Metro-North since July 2017, and previously was Metro-North’s executive vice president, beginning in 2015. On Wednesday, Feb. 21 she was officially named president. She replaces Joe Giulietti who resigned last July after three years leading the railroad. Giulietti became Metro-North’s president in 2014, following railroad troubles that included a Bridgeport derailment in 2013. Westchester Factory To Build MTA Subway Cars
A whole host of new jobs are heading to the Hudson Valley, as the MTA announced a $1.4 billion contract that will be awarded to Kawasaki to build state-of-the-art subway cars in Westchester. The Metropolitan Transportation Authority Board announced this week that they voted to approve the purchase of 535 next generation subway cars, which will be used on lettered routes and the Staten Island Railway.
