The National Weather Service says the severe storm that struck parts of Central Jersey Thursday, July 3, packed winds as strong as 80 miles per hour and caused widespread damage across multiple towns.
In a public information statement issued Friday afternoon, July 4, the NWS confirmed that the destruction — which caused three deaths — was caused by “straight-line winds and downbursts.”

New Jersey skies are tightening up yet again. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has clipped the wings of drone operators in nine more towns, expanding its already hefty "No Drone Zone" list.

Three Colombian nationals remain in federal custody and a fourth has already been deported after the government said they stole jewelry, a Rolex, an antique rifle, furs and cash in a home burglary in Union County.

Driver Seriously Hurt After Hitting Multiple Trees Off I-80 Warren County
A 22-year-old driver was seriously hurt in a crash after striking multiple trees off Interstate 80, authorities said.
Troopers responded to a crash on Saturday, March 11 at 9:13 pm on I-80 east near milepost 7, in Knowlton Township, Warren County, New Jersey State Police said.
Based on a preliminary investigation, Michael Bianco, of Metuchen, was traveling east when the vehicle lost control, went off the roadway and hit multiple trees, State Police said.
As a result of the crash, the driver sustained serious injuries, police said.
The crash remains under investigation.

A New Jersey service station manager admitted stealing $78,000 from more than 17 customers, including Amtrak, through bogus charges for gas, federal authorities said.
