Wyckoff detectives who’d already ordered a convenience store owner and his wife to stop selling vapes and pods to minors could scarcely believe their eyes: Returning to serve them with a summons, the investigators saw a 16-year-old boy buy two packs of pods. It was one of four sales of vape products that police said they witnessed in less than two weeks to 16-year-old boys from Franklin Lakes, Midland Park, Ridgewood and Wyckoff at the same store. UPDATE: A 65-year-old Hawthorne widow now faces vehicular manslaughter charges following the overnight death of a hit-and-run victim who was struck as he crossed a street carrying groceries in Glen Rock nine days ago. The victim, also 65, died Wednesday night at St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center in Paterson, family members said. SNOUT OUT: Police in Englewood and Woodcliff Lake have added specially-designed oxygen masks for pets to their life-saving equipment. Each set donated by at-home pet services provider Canine Company includes masks in three sizes to fit a range of pets, from small mammals to giant breed dogs. The Midland Park community mourning the loss of Serena Merwede, who died on Jan. 17. She was 18 years old. A Facebook fundraiser for the family had raised more than $5,500 as of Wednesday evening. Two victims were hospitalized and a railroad crossing sign was flattened in a Thursday afternoon crash in Midland Park. Both were taken by ambulances to The Valley Hospital in Ridgewood with injuries that responders said weren’t life-threatening after the cross at Goffle Road and Lake Avenue. No injuries were immediately reported in a late Tuesday afternoon fire at a Midland Park beauty salon. The two-alarm blaze ignited on the exterior of the Godwin Avenue building that houses Custom Cut Salon before making its way inside just after 4 p.m. The salon and apartments above it in the three-story building were evacuated safely. Charges were upgraded against a West Windsor man following the death of a 20-year-old designated driver whose car was struck as he took a group of college students -- including a Midland Park couple -- to an off-campus weekend event in Mercer County.
