Landlord With 70 Violations Arrested In Westchester
A prominent Westchester landlord with more than 70 fire and housing code summonses on his record tried to fight the law, and the law won. The City of Yonkers’ top fire and building code scofflaw and landlord, Aurielo Assuncao, was arrested late last week after avoiding bench warrants from more than 70 housing and fire code summonses that have been issued by the Fire Department and Department of Housing and Buildings. A total of 14 alleged drug dealers targeted by undercover officers in a 10-month operation are now in police custody, officials announced late Thursday afternoon. A joint investigation between local and county law enforcement dubbed Operation: Clean Slate targeted street-level drug dealers operating primarily in the third and fourth precincts in Yonkers. Retailers may be going greener in an effort to eliminate the option of single-use carryout bags at stores in Yonkers. There will be parking restrictions on Yonkers for several weeks as the Engineering Department begins preparing for an extensive road resurfacing project in the area. It came down to the wire, but more than 200 positions and programs have been saved in the Yonkers School District following the City Council's adoption of a $1.2 billion budget that includes increased funding for the district.
