Police Sergeant Dies In CT Skydiving Accident
A veteran police officer died in a skydiving accident in Connecticut over the weekend. Sgt. Christopher Callan of the East Greenwich Police Department in Rhode Island died at approximately 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 18 from injuries sustained in a skydiving accident at Danielson Airport on Airport Road, the department announced on Monday, July 20. Callan was a 15 year veteran of the East Greenwich Police Department and was assigned as the 2nd shift supervisor. Callan was also a member of the Rhode Island National Guard. Midland Park Navy Sailor Dies In Afghanistan
Midland Park is mourning the loss of a U.S. Navy sailor who died in Afghanistan. Kevin Yali died on June 19 in an attack, a colleague said on Twitter. He was 27 years old. A Paterson native, Yali served four separate deployments and had been working as a private contractor when he died, News12 reports. Kevin is survived by his parents, Oscar and Daisy Yali; as well as brothers Oscar Yali and Victor Patrocino. A U.S. Marine killed in Afghanistan by a roadside bomb on Monday, April 8 was a New York City firefighter and a former Westchester resident. Christopher A. Slutman, 43, of Ladder Company 27 in the South Bronx, a 15-year veteran of the department, died as a result of injuries sustained while on active duty in Afghanistan, said New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio.
