Men Kidnapped Teen Met On Social Media In Capital Region, Police Say
Two New York men are facing kidnapping charges after picking up a teen they met on social media without permission, police said.
David Hadsell and Mario Sierra, both 20, were arrested on Tuesday, May 6, following an investigation by New York State Police.
Troopers in Montgomery County were called at around 9 p.m. Monday, May 5, for a report of a missing teenager in the town of Root, police said.
The teen had connected with Sierra on social media and was picked up that evening by both Sierra and Hadsell—without the knowledge or permission of the child’s guardian, according to police.

Woman, 85, Killed In House Fire In Capital Region
A devastating house fire in the Capital Region claimed the life of an 85-year-old woman.
Firefighters in Montgomery County responded to a residence on Abraham Road in the town of Florida for a fully-involved structure fire shortly before 3 p.m. Sunday, April 13.
Multiple crews responded to the home, including firefighters from Amsterdam, Fort Hunter, Tribes Hill, and Pattersonville, however conditions made it impossible for them to get inside, according to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office.

Republicans appeared poised to win in New York’s 19th Congressional District, with Marc Molinaro seemingly on track to defeat Democrat Josh Riley early Wednesday, Nov. 9.
Molinaro, the Dutchess County executive, was leading Riley by 2.2 percentage points, 51 to 49 percent, as of early Wednesday morning, Nov. 9, with more than 95 percent of the votes in.
The 19th Congressional District includes the counties of Columbia, Delaware, Greene, Otsego, Schoharie, Sullivan, and Ulster, as well as portions of Broome, Dutchess, Montgomery, and Rensselaer counties.

Capital Region Man Accused Of Forcibly Touching Children 'Multiple Times,' Police Say
A man from the Capital Region is behind bars, accused of sexually abusing multiple children.
Montgomery County resident Tyler Frolke, age 22, of Amsterdam, was arrested Thursday, Sept. 15, following an investigation by New York State Police.
Troopers first began looking into Frolke’s alleged behavior in late August 2022 when they received a complaint that he had inappropriate physical contact with a 13-year-old victim, police said.
The abuse reportedly occurred in both Montgomery County, in the town of Glen, and Fulton County, in the city of Gloversville.

'Truly A Blessing': NY Woman Wins $1M Lottery Prize
A woman won a $1 million prize from a New York Lottery scratch-off ticket.
Montgomery County resident Valerie Kevlin, of Amsterdam, claimed a top prize from the lottery's X Series: 20X game, NY Lottery announced on Tuesday, Aug. 30.
Kevlin received her prize as a single, lump-sum payment of $546,840 after required withholdings, the lottery said.
"It is truly a blessing," Kevlin told NY Lottery after claiming her prize.
The winning ticket was purchased at Stewart’s Shops, which is located at 4192 Route 30 in Amsterdam, the lottery said.
Nor'easter: State Of Emergency Declared For These Hudson Valley Counties
New York Gov. Kathy Hochul has declared a state of emergency in parts of the Hudson Valley as several inches of rain and whipping winds are expected to impact the area.
Hochul issued the declaration late on Monday, Oct. 25, and it is expected to last through early on Wednesday, Oct. 27 as rainfall topping four or more inches are likely incoming, with some areas seeing more than an inch of rain per hour, creating potential flash flooding concerns.
In the Hudson Valley, a state of emergency has been issued for Orange, Putnam, Rockland, Sullivan, Ulster, and Westchester counties.
