Rutgers President To Resign At End Of School Year After Historic, Turbulent Tenure
Jonathan Holloway will resign as president of Rutgers University at the end of the 2024-25 academic year, the school announced. The university's 21st president will step down after finishing his fifth year in office on Monday, June 30, 2025, Rutgers said in a news release on Tuesday, Sept. 17. The U.S. historian plans to take a sabbatical during the 2025-26 year for research projects before joining the Rutgers faculty full time. A 61-year-old pastor has been charged with sexually assaulting a juvenile in Middlesex County, authorities said. Roby D. Cruz-Hernandez, a pastor at Iglesia Pentecostal El Mesias in New Brunswick, was arrested without incident at his home in Somerset, Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone and New Brunswick Police Chief Vincent Sabo said. Cruz-Hernandez was charged with second-degree sexual assault and third-degree endangering the welfare of a child. A 26-year-old New Brunswick summer camp worker is accused of having sexual contact with a minor, authorities said. Dwany Cruz, who works as a recreation assistant of an undisclosed summer camp, had sexual contact with a child on multiple occasions, Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone and New Brunswick Police Chief Vincent Sabo said. Authorities have identified the 38-year-old man who was struck and killed by a vehicle overnight in New Brunswick. James Boyer, a city resident was struck by a vehicle driven by a 32-year-old man on Townsend Street around 12:50 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 15, Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone and New Brunswick Chief Vincent Sabo said. A person struck by a train briefly delayed NJ Transit service Friday, Aug. 9, officials said. The male was struck by Northeast Corridor train 3875, which left New York Penn Station at 6:47 p.m. around 8:30 p.m. just west of Jersey Ave Station in New Brunswick, NJ Transit officials said. A 20-year-old New Brunswick man has pleaded guilty in connection with an April shooting near the Rutgers University campus, authorities said.
