Man Severely Beaten, Vehicle Stolen During Attack In Area, Police Say
A man was severely beaten and had his vehicle stolen during an attack overnight in the area.
The incident took place in Rockland County around 7:20 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 28, in New City, said Clarkstown Police Officer Norman Peters.
According to Peters, Clarkstown officers responded to the vicinity of Ridge Road and Rt. 304, in New City for a report of a male assaulted.
An adult male was found at the location by officers, he was unclothed and had suffered visible injuries to his body, Peters said.

Two cats were killed, and another two saved after a house fire that left a family homeless in Rockland County.
The fire started around 5:20 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 3, at 192 Strawtown Road, in New City, said Clarkstown Police Officer Norman Peters.
First responding police and firefighters from the New City Fire Department, found the single-family home was engulfed in flames, Peters said.
The two adult residents were located outside the home, uninjured as officers arrived. Four of the family's five cats were retrieved from the home.

There was one new COVID-19 fatality reported in Rockland over the weekend, though the number of active cases countywide continues to drop.
In Rockland, the death toll rose to 836 as of Monday, Feb. 1, while the number of active cases dropped by more than 300, from 2,614 on Friday, Jan. 29 to 2,311, according to the latest data from the county Department of Health.
A total of 76 COVID-19 patients are being treated in Rockland hospitals, up from 71 on Friday, while the 6.5 percent overall positive infection rate remains among the highest in the region.

There were two new COVID-19 related deaths in Rockland as the number of active cases in the county ticked slightly upward over the weekend.
In Rockland, the death toll rose to 821 as of Monday, Jan. 25, as the number of active cases rose to 2,514, up from 2,477 on Friday, Jan. 22 as the virus continues to spread in the Hudson Valley.
